ABEC's Alaska Adventures

Let ABEC's Alaska Adventures guide you on Brooks Range backpack or raft trips through the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge or Gates of the Arctic National Park. As a quest for places of wild and natural beauty, we began our Brooks Range guiding service in 1980 with a canoe trip on the Noatak River. Since that first trip we have enjoyed over twenty years of wilderness travel in the Brooks Range and other parts of Alaska. We've also developed a staff of experienced Alaskan guides who will share with you the most spectacular country for backpacking, paddle rafting, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife photography in the far reaches of the arctic.

Hiking in the Sheenjek Valley, Arctic National Wildife RefugeWhen asked what is so special about the Brooks Range, two words come to mind: wildlife and hiking. Our raft trip on the Kongakut River in the Arctic Refuge offers excellent opportunities to witness the spring migration of the Porcupine caribou herd. On the Hulahula River trip we hike up to the alpine meadows of the Romanzof Mountains, where Dall sheep graze on new spring foliage. Our Jago River kayak trip crosses the arctic coastal plain as muskoxen feed along the banks of this glacial stream. The Noatak River coincides with the fall migration of the Western Arctic caribou herd and is a perfect time to watch grizzly bears feeding on luscious ripe blueberries.

Kayaking the Kongukut RiverFor the grandest of mountain splendor, trek with us into the high valley beneath the Arrigetch Peaks. Combine this spectacular backpack with a scenic canoe or kayak trip down the Alatna River for a once in a lifetime adventure. Or backpack through the mountains that Bob Marshall immortalized with the name "Gates of the Arctic", followed by a float trip down the clear waters of the North Fork of the Koyukuk River.

If you are looking for high adventure, you'll enjoy one of our backpack trips into some of the most remote corners of the arctic high country. For those who want to hike across the arctic tundra without the weight of a backpack, our river trips provide the perfect way to explore the Brooks Range. Come join us on an arctic adventure in Alaska's wildest places.
